The University of Maryland Medical Center, with its R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center and the affiliated The University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute, is offering a one-year hand and upper extremity fellowship.

Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Overview

Fellows in this training program receive comprehensive exposure to the upper limb that includes:

Mangled hand and upper extremity trauma
Free tissue transfer
Pediatric and congenital hand
Brachial plexus
Elective procedures of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder
Secondary reconstructive procedures

This program offers a busy limb salvage service as a collaborative effort with Shock Trauma's Orthopaedic Traumatology team. The fellowship provides exposure to a wide array of local rotational and free tissue transfers. It also addresses secondary and subsequent reconstructive efforts to include tendon transfers, vascularized graft, free muscle tissue transfer, and nonunions and malunions of the upper extremity.

In addition to microsurgical and reconstructive techniques, fellows in this program receive solid exposure to pediatric hand as well as comprehensive exposure to hand procedures at affiliated hospitals and surgical centers.

The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) manages the hand fellowship match. Candidates will also need to separately register for the match and create a match list with the NRMP.
