Mission Statement

The mission of the University of Maryland Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship is to educate and train leading clinical cardiac electrophysiologists through high quality and comprehensive clinical care, didactic and self-directed education, and diverse scholarly opportunities.

As a program, it has excelled at comprehensive training of cardiac electrophysiologists in all possible aspects of consultative, invasive, and advanced cardiac arrhythmia management of common and rare arrhythmia disorders.

Program Objectives

To fully learn the indications, contradictions, risks, limitations, sensitivity, specificity, and predictive accuracy, and appropriate techniques for evaluating patients with a wide variety of rhythm disorders including:

  • To educate and train leading clinical cardiac electrophysiologists through high quality and comprehensive clinical care, didactic and self-directed education, and diverse research opportunities
  • To graduate clinical cardiac electrophysiologists skilled in all clinical, procedural, and technical aspects of heart rhythm management
  • To develop the necessary foundations of cardiac physiology, evidence-based medicine, clinical skills, and technical knowledge that graduates will utilize for lifelong safe and cutting-edge cardiac electrophysiology practice
  • To provide all cardiac electrophysiology fellows with the necessary academic tools and resources to successfully pursue scholarly opportunities
  • To offer comprehensive, high-quality and cutting-edge heart rhythm services of renown to the people of Baltimore, Maryland, the Mid-Atlantic region, and the nation

About Our Program

COVID-19

This past year, along-side colleagues across the globe, our training program faced challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our institution and our divisional leadership continue to respond dynamically. Measures for a safe working environment, including training on donning and doffing of PPE and seamless mechanisms to procure PPE have been implemented.

Our current didactic training structure remains robust and has been adapted to the virtual space.

While not at pre-COVID volumes, our Cath and EP Lab continue to grow.
