To get started with an organ transplant, the first step is evaluation by a transplant physician. UMMC doctors perform these evaluations at clinic locations throughout Maryland and in neighboring states.

However, our program is open to potential organ recipients nationwide. We developed an eVisit program that lets patients from outside Maryland be evaluated from home.

This program can help patients expand their transplant options by being listed for a transplant at a location outside their immediate geographic area. We encourage patients who are listed for a transplant at other centers to multiple-list with UMMC.

Our eVisit program lets you complete your evaluation remotely. Use the button to fill out the form to request a call from one of our nurse coordinators.

How Transplant eVisits Work

Plan to reserve one hour for the meeting. We encourage you to have a caregiver join you, if possible. Here's how it works:

  1. Video technology lets you have a private, real-time conversation with a transplant surgeon and nurse coordinator at UMMC.
  2. You meet and interact with the providers via desktop computer, tablet or smartphone.
  3. The surgeon will discuss multiple listing and the waiting list process at UMMC.
  4. We encourage you to ask questions, getting to know the surgeon and transplant nurse coordinator. The coordinator will become your main point of contact for additional questions. Meet the transplant nurse coordinators.

During the meeting, neither you nor the surgeon is committed to placing you on the waiting list or accepting a position on the transplant waiting list. We will also review medical information from your home medical team to help you decide if listing at UMMC is right for you.
