National Marrow Donor Program
Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation
UMGCCC is also one of a handful of cancer centers in the country that participate with the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation.
Gift of Life is a donor registry dedicated to increasing the representation of donors of Jewish ethnic background in the worldwide registry. They do this through establishing formal recruitment partnerships with Jewish community and campus groups, with special emphasis on enrolling younger donors who will remain in the registry longer, facilitating more transplants over time.
Gift of Life donors come to UMGCCC’s Blood and Marrow Transplant Program to have their bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells collected for transplant to critically ill patients all over the world. The donation process involves an outpatient visit to the cancer center during which either bone marrow or stem cells are harvested, depending on the recipient patient’s needs.
If you have any questions about or during the screening process, please contact our senior BMT program coordinator, Kathy Ruehle, RN, OCN, at 410-328-1229.
