Specialized Treatments

At Upper Chesapeake Orthopedic Specialty Group, we are one of the few surgical practices in our area to perform the Anterior Approach to Hip Total Hip Arthroplasty (AATHA), a tissue-sparing alternative to traditional hip replacement that allows for a faster recover with less pain because muscle tissues are spared and only one incision is needed during surgery.

Our other specialized treatments include:

Patient-specific Knee Replacement – a procedure during which computer guided imagery and technology is used to perform surgery that is tailored specifically to a patient's unique anatomy.

Mobile Bearing/Platform Knee Replacement - a technique that allows the cushion between the upper and lower parts of the artificial joint to move freely creating better contact and rotation resulting in less stress on the joint, improved resistance to wear and better overall outcomes.

Uni and Mini Knee Replacement – best for patients with damage to only one side of the knee. More of the patient's natural bone and tissue structure is retained as compared to a total knee replacement, allowing for a faster and less painful recovery.

Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction – a minimally invasive surgery that uses ligaments from other areas of the leg and grafts them onto the knee joint, repairing torn knee ligaments.

Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement – used in more complex shoulder issues (such as a torn rotator cuff) an artificial socket is fitted into the upper arm bone and metal ball is attached to the shoulder bone, allowing the arm to move freely without relying on the rotator cuff.

Ankle Replacement – surgery during which the bones of the ankle are resurfaced with metal and plastic, similar to a knee replacement procedure, that relieves pain, increases movement and restores function to an arthritic ankle.

Denovo® Cartilage Transplantation – a single step cartilage repair procedure that implants living cartilage tissue into the damaged area allowing for healthy regrowth and regeneration of the joint's cartilage.
