Jim Hursey

Jim Hursey joined UM UCH as the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer in 2011.  Jim holds an undergraduate degree in Business/Economics, and a Masters Degree in Business Administration.  Jim has extensive experience in both the acute care and ambulatory arena, having worked for GBMC for 16 years and St. Joseph Medical Center for 3 years.  
Immediately prior to joining UM UCH, Jim served as the COO for the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the Mid-Atlantic region, advancing  community health for underserved populations.  Jim was able to significantly impact revenue, efficiency and the experience of the organizations patients and team members during his tenure with Baltimore Medical System.  
Jim’s acute care experience spans over 20 years, where he served as the Senior Vice President over business development, planning, strategy, decision support and ambulatory development at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.  Further, Jim worked closely within an integrated system at SJMC, where he interfaced with the corporate team at Catholic Health Initiatives, serving on improvement teams across the CHI system, including standardization, coordination, contracting and related operating initiatives.  These efforts improved the local hospitals results, as well as CHI’s overall corporate results.  
Patient safety, quality and efficiency have been a core foundation of Jim’s leadership philosophy.
