We know that becoming a parent can be as overwhelming as it is exciting…And we want you to know that we're here with the experts, information and the support you need to prepare for your growing family. Our full range of classes can help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy, labor & delivery, homecoming and new parenthood.
Please note: Though it's never too early to prepare for your new baby, we recommend that you plan to begin your classes between weeks 24-35 of pregnancy.

Family and Childbirth Education Classes
Childbirth Education Class (five-week series, three-week series, one-day class)
Discover everything that's great about your baby's birthplace—UM St. Joseph Medical Center! Our childbirth classes provide educational and helpful information for happy and healthy birth-and-beyond experiences. Classes are taught by registered nurses certified in Childbirth Education, with years of skilled and compassionate clinical experience. Offered as a five-week series, a three-week series or a one-day class. $60 per couple.

Just for You: On-Demand Childbirth Class
This childbirth class is designed with YOU in mind—specifically for busy parents who can't commit to in-person classes. You will be assigned your own childbirth educator for personal consultations at your convenience, with all the education and information you need provided virtually. Breastfeeding Class (one-day class)
Is breastfeeding right for you? This one-day class is for expectant mothers and their partners, to provide education and an introduction to breastfeeding your baby. Learn about the benefits to you and baby, best-bet techniques and tips for success. Taught by a certified lactation consultant. $20, or FREE with Childbirth Education Class.
You've Got This! Baby Care Class (two-week series)
Care for your baby with confidence! This two-session class (a two-week series) offers expert instruction from our registered nurse educators, to teach you what you need to know before bringing your baby home and for caring for your little one throughout the first year. $45 per couple.

Breathing Easier for Baby
Breathe easier as you prepare for childbirth! This class provides you and your support person extensive instruction in relaxation and breathing techniques for a calmer and more empowered labor and delivery—and plenty of time and space to practice. You'll also learn about other comfort measures and birth positions to help naturally manage pain during the early and active phases of labor. Designed for couples planning for low-intervention or unmedicated birth experiences, this instruction can help parents labor at home longer or manage labor comfortably after being admitted to the hospital. $20 per couple.

A great "refresher" for new grandparents, featuring instruction on infant CPR and choking safety, the latest health and safety concerns regarding newborns, and how to best support and care for the new mom and baby you love.
Please note: This class is for grandparents only. Parents are encouraged to take our Baby Care Class. $10 per person.
COMING SOON...Prenatal Yoga
Stay active and healthy during your pregnancy with this yoga class for expectant mothers delivering at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. Taught by a certified yoga instructor. Call 410-337-1880 for details.
Car Seat Safety Checks

Join one of our board-certified lactation consultants and share your feeding questions or concerns. Meet and bond with other mothers to discuss the triumphs and challenges of motherhood. Whether you breast- or bottle-feed, you are welcome! FREE.
A support group for women throughout pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood and life, led by a certified nurse midwife. Newborns are welcome. Meets on the second and fourth Mondays each month, from 2:30-4 p.m. FREE.
