Diagnosis and Treatment
News of an abnormal mammogram or discovering a breast lump understandably evokes fear in all women. At the Breast Center at UM St. Joseph Medical Center, this fear is minimized with a fast track to treatment program called "No More Sleepless NightsTM." The Breast Center takes into account the needs of patients who may not even have the disease. With such a frightening possible diagnosis, the clinicians at the Breast Center understand that, for better or worse, a patient wants to know as soon as possible the outcome of their tests.
Women are scheduled the day they call with an abnormal mammogram or lump. In fact, within 24 hours women can receive the results of a biopsy, if needed, and be well on their way to a comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment plan with an expert team of physicians.
The multi-disciplinary approach, in which all patients receive evaluation by a team of 30 clinicians, provides seamless and highly personalized care.
After a diagnosis of breast cancer, patients are seen and evaluated by pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and reconstructive surgeons to discuss all aspects of each diagnosis, the specific cell type and the extent of the disease. A unique treatment plan is then developed for each patient.
