UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, treating patients for acute illnesses, injuries and trauma as well as minor injuries. Located off Route 50 near Queenstown, the facility provides care by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses, and it offers full diagnostic imaging and laboratory services. Emergency medical transports are accepted, and patients needing more advanced medical care are transported to hospitals via ambulance or helicopter.

Serving more than 14,000 patients a year, UM Shore EC at Queenstown is one of only three freestanding emergency facilities in the state of Maryland and the only one in a rural area. The 16,000-square-foot center boasts four ambulance bays, a helipad, 14 treatment beds, and services including diagnostic imaging and a full-service clinical testing laboratory. The staff of 50 includes board certified emergency medical physicians, nurses, medical technologists, radiology technologists, patient registration representatives, housekeeping technicians and security officers.

In 2014, UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown became the first freestanding emergency center in Maryland designated as an Emergency Medical Services Base Station, capable of providing medical direction to EMS providers working with patients in the field in response to a patient's medication and procedural intervention needs.
