UM Palliative Care

The Palliative Care Program at the University of Maryland Medical System strives to assist all patients who suffer from complex and chronic illness.  Our experts, specially trained in palliative care, seek to provide relief from the symptoms and stress of having a serious illness.  We seek to serve as the health navigator for the thousands of Marylanders who suffer from chronic health conditions.

Our teams of physicians, palliative care nurses, social workers and chaplains work together to help you best plan for the future while living with a chronic condition. This includes coordinating treatment plans across disciplines, financial planning and more. The palliative care team provides an extra layer of support and works in partnership with your other physicians. 

Patients who benefit from palliative care are likely to be coping with illnesses such as:

  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

  • congestive heart failure (CHF)

  • kidney failure

  • cancer
