Strategic marketing and communications professional Mary E. Lanham has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). Lanham has been with UMMS for 17 years in advancing roles, most recently serving as Vice President for System Marketing and Brand Strategy.

“Mary has a proven track record of working effectively across the system to promote our high quality, patient-focused mission,” said Robert A. Chrencik, MBA, CPA, President and Chief Executive Officer, University of Maryland Medical System. “She has demonstrated great passion for communicating what it means to “Be a Part of Something Greater” to consumers, our patients, physician partners and staff.”  

Lanham actively manages, and works closely with leadership across the Medical System, to effectively promote the UMMS brand. She was instrumental in developing a consolidated marketing and communications team to serve the entire University of Maryland Medical System, which includes consumer marketing, physician marketing, web and digital strategy, graphic design, brand strategy, videography/photography, customer relationship management, internal communications and media relations. Lanham began her career with a public relations firm in Washington, DC, after which she joined UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center in 2001 and spent the next 10 years serving in progressive leadership roles in the marketing, communications and planning department before moving into a leadership role at UMMS. Lanham will report to Jerry Wollman, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

Lanham earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Pfeiffer University and a Master of Arts in Publication Design from the University of Baltimore. A resident of Anne Arundel County, she is a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and the Executive Alliance Mentoring Program, and received the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry Award. She currently sits on the board of directors for the Red Devils, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients in Maryland.
