Lung Cancer Screenings

Often, people with lung cancer aren't diagnosed until they have symptoms such as a new, lingering cough, coughing up blood, unintentional weight loss, or chest pain. By that point, the cancer is usually advanced.

UMMC Midtown Campus offers a lung cancer screening program which uses low-dose CT scan (LDCT) annually to find early stage lung cancer. Lung cancer is not symptomatic until it gets to late stage, so it's important to perform find it at an early stage and treat it as soon as possible..

According to the American Lung Association, lung cancer has an 88 percent survival rate when caught early and treated.

Current or former smokers (20 years or more) between ages 50-80 are eligible for lung cancer screening.
