The physicians and staff at UMMC Midtown Campus work around the clock to address the many needs of our patients. Below is a patient story that exemplifies the respectful and high-quality care provided daily to our West Baltimore community.

A Daughter’s Thank You Message to A Compassionate and Thorough Care Team

Mary Beth Lamon, a Division Administrator from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, shared a touching story about the excellent care her mother received at UMMC Midtown Campus following her admission to the ED. While sadly her mother passed away two days after admission, Mary Beth and her family were moved by the compassionate, respectful and high-quality care provided to her mother by every Midtown team member they interacted with.

Having worked in healthcare for over 35 years, I can say that my family and I witnessed the utmost compassionate, professional, and quality care at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus. I want to thank everyone at Midtown for the incredible care they provided my mom.

Everyone from the front desk receptionist to the Emergency Room physician were nothing short of amazing. Victoria Albertini, RN, and Keisha Teake, RN, were fantastic. Margarita Jovel, MD, took the time to update our family about mom’s progress, what was being assessed and the potential outcome. Hearing this process explained in detail lowered our family’s stress levels and, because of it, our family agreed that mom was in the best hands.

Even after being transferred from the Emergency Department to the Intensive Care Unit, the level of care provided by the staff remained consistent. Nurse Manager Nina Funderburk, Mohammed Nabeel, MD, Jeremy De’Jesus, RN, and Pat Bulls from Palliative Care were amazing! They helped us make a significant decision by providing necessary information, asking questions and showing compassion to our family. Each time the team entered the room, they made their presence known and made mom feel comfortable, regardless of her going in and out of consciousness.

On our last night at Midtown, the ICU staff participated in a moment of silence for mom. Although we didn’t know what the immediate future would hold, it was comforting to know that our family was surrounded with love.

The nursing team was top notch and deserves the highest level of praise. They truly gave us the gift of excellent care!
