About Me

Dr. Shanahan is a general cardiologist and certified cardiac device specialist. He treats a number of heart conditions, including hypertension, congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease (CAD). However, he much prefers preventing heart disease to treating it. He loves to work one on one with patients to help them make meaningful changes in their health that will improve their heart health.

Dr. Shanahan has been practicing on Maryland's Eastern Shore since 2006 and is the medical director of UM Shore Medical Group (UM SGM). Among the procedures he performs are stress testing, echocardiograms and heart monitoring.

UM SMG Cardiology has developed state-of-the-art cardiac care, delivered in the Eastern Shore community. The partnership with the University of Maryland allows UM SGM to provide a higher level of care that is always delivered with compassion.

"We do our best to treat each and every patient as if they were our own family member," says Dr. Shanahan.

Dr. Shanahan earned his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in cardiology at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

When not a work, Dr. Shanahan enjoys water activities and spending time with family. "The Eastern Shore has afforded me the opportunity to combine my personal interests with my professional aspirations. I consider it an honor to be part of this wonderful community," he says.

  • I highly recommend Dr. Shanahan

  • Good

  • Good

  • I can tell you that this office and doctor made me so comfortable that my blood pressure, which usually is very high at the doctor's office, was just a tiny bit high when I arrived and totally normal when the doc rechecked it. That is an indication of how good my experience was.

  • Because I am new to this dr, he answered all questions but wish he would have given more info to me as I don't have experience with other heart condition patients within my friends or family. Many unknowns to me.

  • I an extremely fortunate to have access to such expert medical care

  • Perfect

  • I tell everyone that needs a cardiologist go to Dr Shanahan. If he ever leaves I will follow.

  • Dr explained why I need to start the new medicine.

  • I never feel this doctor cares or takes interest in me as a person. I go away feeling as if I am just someone on his "to-do list".

  • My doctor ALWAYS makes comparisons from my last labs to my recent labs and explains how well I may have improved with my tests results. It makes you feel proud because you want your doctor to believe in you just as you want to believe in him.

  • No problems.

  • I am always satisfied with Dr Tim's care. He listens to me and then having me go for tests as needed for my new condition. I'm so happy that he realizes what I'm feeling differently and right away having my new health issue checked out I have full trust in his care for me.
