About Me

Dr. Benda is a general radiation oncologist. Though she treats all cancers, she has special interests in breast, gynecologic and thoracic cancers.

Radiation oncology, in Dr. Benda's view, is the perfect blend of technology and patient care. Believing it is important to treat the whole patient, she tailors treatments to her patients' psychosocial — mental, emotional, social and spiritual — needs to achieve optimal cancer care outcomes. She enjoys offering new technologies to her patients to better treat their individual cancer types as well as help reduce treatment time and adverse treatment effects.

Dr. Benda is medical director of the Requard Radiation Oncology Center at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH). She continues to advance the robust clinical program at the Requard Center, which offers state-of-the-art technology and procedures for cancer treatment, including brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. Her focus also includes expanding radiation oncology clinical trials, research and UM SRH multidisciplinary clinics throughout the region. Her experience includes treating over 200 breast cancer patients per year.

In addition, Dr. Benda is an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at University of Maryland School of Medicine.
