About Me
Dr. Hanna was named a "Top Doctor" in the specialties of Colo-Rectal Surgery and Surgical Oncology by Baltimore magazine in 2020.
Dr. Hanna is the Medical Director of the UM St. Joseph Medical Center Cancer Institute and a Professor of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed an accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He is the recipient of several achievement and educational awards and is repeatedly listed as Top doc, Baltimore magazine, and U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Hanna's expertise includes advanced and complex surgical oncology procedures for advanced/recurrent and metastatic gastrointestinal cancers, including esophagectomy, gastrectomy, major liver resection, Whipple procedure, pelvic exenteration and cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. His research interests include gene therapy for pancreatic cancer, radio-sensitization for GI malignancies, outcomes research and clinical trials. He is a national/international speaker in gastrointestinal cancers.
He is well published in various high impact journals, including Nature, Nature Medicine, Cancer Research, Human Gene therapy, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Oncologist, Colorectal disease, Annals of Surgical Oncology, Annals of Surgery and Journal of American College of Surgeons.
