About Me
Dr. Jordan Pyda is a multi-organ transplant surgeon who performs liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. He treats patients with liver failure, cirrhosis, end-stage kidney disease (ESRD) and renal failure who may benefit from living or deceased donor transplantation. He also performs general surgery in transplant patients and creates dialysis access (fistulas, grafts and peritoneal dialysis) for patients with ESRD.
For some procedures, like kidney donation or hernia repairs, Dr. Pyda performs robot-assisted surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that results in less pain and scarring and faster healing. He aims for clinical excellence for every patient, every day and every time. He seeks to treat patients as if they were members of his own family and recognizes that for complex issues like liver failure and kidney failure, everything matters.
For Dr. Pyda, dedication to each individual patient is the utmost priority.
"It does not matter where you live — we seek to provide the best possible care for you and your family. All transplant patients — those who live down the street in Baltimore or a few hours away on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, or even around the world in Africa — deserve care that is personally focused on their clinical problem and tailored to help them overcome their challenges," he says. "For some people, those challenges may be medical — for others, those challenges may be financially related or something different. I want all my patients to know that we are here to partner with them and to help them."
Dr. Pyda is committed to clear communication with his patients and their loved ones throughout the process of care, from preoperative evaluations (including discussions on treatment or transplant options) to care around the time of surgery as well as postoperative care. In addition, he is dedicated to global efforts to develop surgical capacity and transplantation programs in other countries. He has worked in the Central Plateau of Haiti for over 20 years supporting the development of surgical care. He is actively engaged in the development of kidney transplantation in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Pyda was inspired to pursue medicine by the historical example of Dr. Albert Schweitzer and after working with Dr. Paul Farmer in Haiti.
