From Dr. Herrera: Being raised in the Baltimore metropolitan area, I have a keen interest in improving the health of the surrounding Baltimore neighborhoods. Being a primary care physician for the University of Maryland allows me to advocate, educate, and coordinate the medical needs of the community. I believe each patient is unique with their own personal needs and medical situations. In the complex practice of healthcare, I hope to be helpful as a navigator in helping patients understand their symptoms from a medical standpoint and making a shared management plan.
My special interest lies in medical student education and primary care sports medicine, which includes non-surgical management of musculoskeletal conditions. My interest in medical education lies in promoting, preparing, and guiding medical students towards a career in primary care. My interest in sports medicine was born out of the philosophy that both exercise and activity is medicine. Additionally, I also understand that committed athletes require a different approach to their care. My practice includes ranges of ages from adolescent athletes to the geriatric athletes. When medically indicated, I am also able to perform various corticosteroid injections for various musculoskeletal and joint ailments.
