Message From Our Leadership
The COVID-19 pandemic isn't over, but we take this moment to look back over the past year as we move forward.
After more than a year of meeting all the challenges the pandemic has brought to us, we are more hopeful than ever. The number of hospitalized patients per day continues to go back down after the winter surge, and our team members are vaccinating more Marylanders every day against COVID-19. We offered the vaccines to our own team members as soon as the state made doses available, and then turned our attention to vaccinating our communities, paying special attention to serving those who are most at risk.
We've grown stronger as a system, proving we can thrive in a crisis because we face it head-on with our combined, diverse resources and experience. I'm proud of the team members at all of our hospitals and in our shared services. Our University of Maryland Access Center made sure patients across the state could get the care they needed, as close to home as possible – whether for COVID-19 or all other health care needs.
Our purchasing power and expertise in sourcing supplies and equipment ensured the safety of our team members and patients. Our telemedicine capabilities soared, providing peace of mind and continuity of care to patients.
The partnership we have with University of Maryland, Baltimore, especially the School of Medicine and School of Nursing, improves our patient care and our ability to support the health and well-being of our communities.
I hope you will share in the gratitude I have for the more than 28,000 team members and more than 4,600 affiliated physicians who continue to care for Maryland through this pandemic and who are here for all the challenges the future is sure to bring.
