As part of the ongoing efforts by the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) to support people in our communities who experience barriers to improving their health and well-being, we are partnering with other non-profits that also serve our communities.

We are offering UMMS Community Impact Grants for programs and events that make a significant impact as they foster thriving, healthy communities in Maryland.

UMMS Community Impact Grant Priorities

These community grants will fund efforts that:

  • Support initiatives and events whose primary focus is to promote health
  • Enable the delivery of the safest and highest quality health care, including behavioral health services
  • Promote access to basic health care services to those who do not have health insurance or are underinsured
  • Promote wellness, focus on prevention and promote healthy lifestyles through physical fitness and proper nutrition
  • Improve health equity by addressing social determinants of health that negatively affect individuals' health and well-being, such as:
    • Economic instability – employment and workforce development
    • Lack of access to quality education
    • Neighborhood and environmental health and safety issues
    • Food insecurity
    • Lack of transportation
    • Inadequate access to affordable, quality daycare
  • Address health care disparities that groups of people or whole communities may experience as a result of the above social determinants of health

We will prioritize programs that:

  • Make widespread or systemic improvements
  • Target particular health concerns or social determinants of health

Who Can Apply

Applications are open to nonprofit community organizations and 501(c)(3) public charities that serve the same communities as UMMS.

Organizations may have a health-focused mission, but we will also consider organizations whose primary focus is not health-related, such as cultural, civic and educational organizations, if their proposal meets our funding guidelines.

Programs and events funded must benefit the communities in the state of Maryland.

Application Process

Grant applications will be reviewed monthly. Applicants will be notified of an award in approximately eight weeks. There is no application fee.
