We proudly offer a variety of models of prenatal care so you can choose one that will best meet your needs. Our OB/GYNs and midwives provide comprehensive treatment and work with you to develop a prenatal care plan and a birthing plan so you can bring your newborn into the world with confidence and ease. These include:
Midwifery Care: Your initial OB appointment will most likely be scheduled with a midwife. Together, you will determine the best model of prenatal care for you and your baby. Midwifery care is based on the belief that pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy processes in a woman’s life. It is often said that midwives are experts in normal pregnancy and natural childbirth. They are trained to support women should they desire low intervention birth. Learn more.
Group Prenatal Care through CenteringPregnancy®: This model of prenatal care focuses on health assessment, education and support within a group setting facilitated by a midwife and an assistant. You will be grouped with women who are due around the same time as you. Together, you will attend 10 two-hour prescheduled prenatal sessions. Centering classes are held in two locations: at the BW Health Services building in Hanover (7556 Teague Road, Suite 430) and at the Executive Center building in Glen Burnie (300 Hospital Drive, Suite 130). Physician Supervised Prenatal Care: The doctors are specifically trained to care for women with more complex medical conditions and who may be considered "high-risk." We have physicians fluent in Spanish and French.
Because our experienced and highly qualified providers work together as a team, they are each assigned a 24-hour period to be on call. There is always a doctor and midwife on call together. As a result, the doctor or midwife that you have chosen to provide your prenatal care may not be on call and available to assist you in labor or perform your delivery. However, one of the other physician and/or midwife team members will be available to ensure the safest, most harmonious delivery experience possible.
