Women’s health is medicine focusing on diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions affecting a woman’s physical and mental health. This includes pregnancy, childbirth, gynecology, birth control, female cancers and menopause. Our women’s health team is made up of obstetricians/gynecologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and midwives who partner to make sure that you receive the most comprehensive care possible.

Gynecology

Gynecologists specialize in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of female reproductive system conditions and diseases. Our gynecologists provide you with comprehensive care, including:

  • Annual pelvic exams
  • Breast exams
  • Management of menopause symptoms
  • Urinary incontinence treatment
  • Minimally invasive surgery to treat uterine fibroids, endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome

Obstetrics

Obstetricians specialize in pregnancy, childbirth and women’s reproductive organs. Our obstetricians guide patients through pregnancy and childbirth, developing a close relationship with you along the way.

They deliver babies at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center, UM Charles Regional Medical Center, UM Shore Medical Center and UM St. Joseph Medical Center. Our obstetricians also provide follow-up care post-pregnancy, making sure that moms and babies are off to a good start.

Midwifery

Certified nurse midwives are registered nurses who provide pre-conception, pregnancy, delivery and even care after the birth of your baby. Like obstetricians/gynecologists (OB/GYNs), midwives are licensed and regulated, but they do not perform surgery. They are known for practicing a more holistic approach to prenatal care. While you are giving birth, they will stay with you throughout the labor process. Our midwives work hand-in-hand with our obstetricians, giving you ample support as you welcome your little one into the world.

Continence and Pelvic Health

Our team of continence and pelvic health specialists and urologists understand how frustrating and embarrassing bladder conditions and pelvic support problems can be. They have expertise in identifying these conditions and coming up with treatment options to correct the problem and improve your quality of life.

Our specialists treat conditions such as:

  • Unrestrained leakage of urine
  • Urinary retention and incomplete bladder emptying
  • Vaginal prolapse
  • Dysfunctional voiding
  • Recurrent bladder infections

If your condition requires advanced treatment, our locations offer a number of surgical and minimally invasive options, including:

  • Botox for overactive bladder
  • Midurethral slings for female stress urinary incontinence
  • Treatment for female organ prolapse
