For Immediate Release March 31, 2016

(La Plata, MD) -  The University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center has named Joseph Moser, MD, to the position of Chief Medical Officer of the hospital. Prior to his March 7, 2016 start, Dr. Moser worked for Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD where he worked as Vice President of Medical Affairs for 18 years.

“I’m pleased that Dr. Moser has joined our team,” says Noel Cervino, President and CEO of UM CRMC. “In his new role, Dr. Moser will be a member of the hospital’s senior management team and a member of the System Chief Medical Officer’s Council led by Walter Ettinger, MD.”

Dr. Moser will provide the hospital with guidance and direction in numerous areas including its clinical programs, patient safety, compliance with regulatory standards, physician coverage, physician recruitment, and the Medical Staff Office. Dr. Moser will act as a liaison between members of the medical staff and UM CRMC.

“I’m excited about this opportunity to work with the physicians and staff at Charles Regional. There are many challenges we face in healthcare today. This is a high-performing hospital in a premier health system, and it’s a privilege to join a team of this caliber in working to enhance healthcare for people in Charles County.” says Dr. Moser.

Additionally, Dr. Moser will be instrumental in helping shape some of the hospital’s ongoing growth and its continued expansion of new services and technology to meet our community’s needs. “Dr. Moser will play a key role in developing Charles Regional as a medical center that continually strives to be the premier place to receive and to provide excellent care,” says Cervino.

Dr. Moser is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was in private practice for more than twenty years from 1975 to 1997 before Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. There he developed and helped improve numerous quality measures and systems to enhance patient care. He also led the hospital’s successful accreditation by the national Joint Commission every three years, and developed a program to reduce medical errors. He created the hospital’s Bioethics program and organized its internal system for responding to crises involving all hazards.
