La Plata, MD: Taking the lead among area organizations to support a hospital project, the La Plata Kiwanis Club recently provided a matching gift to the contribution they made a year ago to the Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation.

The gift is earmarked to help support the renovations to the Birthing Center for the county's only hospital. The two-phased project included renovations of the postpartum unit which was completed last spring followed by updates to the labor and delivery suite. These areas of the medical center are being upgraded to meet the needs for patients and their families and will enable physicians and staff to continue to provide high quality and compassionate care.

"With more than 800 deliveries annually at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center," said Becky Hoffman, Chairman of the Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation, "this gift will impact the renovations in a positive way and will expand and enhance the OB services at our hospital for families in our region."

The Foundation made this renovation project its top funding priority for FY15 and generated more than $500,000 for the project in cash and pledges. Their contribution was comprised of net proceeds from a comedy night event hosted by three county clubs. The funds were presented and approved for a match contribution from the Kiwanis Foundation.

The Kiwanis Club of La Plata celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 and are part of the Capital District in the Potomac Region Division 3. For more information on the Kiwanis Club of La Plata, visit
