Hospital Holiday Illumination Ceremony Planned for December 7
On December 7, the campus will shine brilliantly at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (UM CRMC) and remain illuminated throughout the holiday season. Each sparkling light on the ceremonial Christmas Tree of Life and luminaries in the healing garden honors an individual, living or deceased, who has touched our lives. While many choose to memorialize family and friends, others elect to honor a teacher, mentor, co-worker or a loved one. Some community organizations use this program to acknowledge their club as a whole or to memorialize past members.
Again this year the Foundation has expanded their event to include several illuminators who are close to the hospital and will ceremoniously "flip the switch" and kick off the holiday season for the Medical Center. The Foundation is honored to have the following illuminators participating in 2016:
- Former Foundation Chairman Tina Raymond, in memory of her mother, Betty Jane Impellizzeri.
- UM CRMC Imaging Director, Sharon White, in memory of her mother, Ruby Funkhouser.
- CRMC Auxiliary Vice President Joann Bush, in memory of her mother, Mary Mattia.
- The McPherson family, in memory of Daniel McPherson.
There are three ways to participate in the fundraiser that will help fund initiatives to expand health services for our entire community: 1) A donation of $15 will secure a single light on the tree in honor or memory of an individual, business or community organization, 2) Donors can make a $50 donation and acknowledge their loved one with a Healing Garden Luminary, 3) Donors can also consider a one-time gift of $100 for a special perpetual “angel”. The angels acknowledge these lifetime gifts each holiday season and the honorees’ name will be acknowledged in the program each and every year.
The Foundation acknowledges the names of all donors and their honorees in a commemorative program and invites the community to attend the holiday illumination ceremony on Wednesday, December 7 at 5:30pm in the Healing Garden on the grounds of the Medical Center on Garrett Avenue in La Plata. Following the ceremony, guests will enjoy a dessert reception and festive holiday music.
To have a light, angel or luminary shine in honor or in memory of your loved one(s), please make your gift by completing and mailing the form found in the Maryland Independent. Donors can also mail their contribution to the CRMC Foundation, P.O. Box 1701, La Plata, MD 20646. The Foundation must receive all gifts no later than November 26 to be included in the commemorative program.
