Mother holding newborn

What can you expect when your baby's big day arrives? When you choose childbirth at UM Charles Regional, the joyous arrival will be in a place recognized by Newsweek magazine as one of the nation's best maternity hospitals.

And you'll bring your new bundle into this world right here in Charles County at our Birthing Center, which is staffed 24/7 by our team of experienced, on-staff obstetricians and pediatricians and has anesthesiologists always available.

Renovated in 2019, our Birthing Center includes:

  • Dedicated triage assessment room
  • Fully equipped operating room for Cesarean births
  • OB-GYN and pediatrician on-site 24/7

See the Birthing Center for yourself in this virtual tour.

In-person Birthing Center tours are held the fourth Tuesday of each month starting at 6 p.m., and every second Saturday of each month starting at 9 a.m. To register for a tour, please go to our Classes and Events calendar to select a day.

Labor and Delivery

Our labor and delivery facilities include private birthing suites and a fully equipped operating room for C-sections.

The private birthing suites allow you and your baby to stay in one place for labor, delivery and initial recovery. Features of the room include:

  • Adjustable bed for maximum comfort
  • Television and Wi-Fi
  • Private bathroom with shower
  • Light settings for soothing levels of brightness or color
  • Comfortable accommodations for your support person

Mother-Baby Unit

After a brief recovery period, you'll move to our Mother-Baby Unit for the remainder of your maternity stay, with plenty of room for your support person to stay overnight. Our on-staff lactation consultant will be available to assist you with breastfeeding and help ensure your baby gets the nourishment they need to get off to a thriving start.

Your baby will stay with you in the room, but we do have a nursery available if your baby needs a higher level of observation. The Mother-Baby Unit remains locked at all times, and we use the Hugs Infant Protection system to provide an added level of security that lets us ensure your baby never leaves the unit until you're ready to go home.
