My child is in the hospital and my spouse/partner/guardian and I both want to visit. What should we do?

We understand how stressful it can be to have your child in the hospital. As an exception to the policy, we are permitting one adult to visit under this scenario. No children under the age of 18 (unless they are the parent) are permitted to visit.

My child is having surgery and my spouse/partner/guardian needs to be present with me. What arrangements can we make?

We understand how stressful it can be to have your child in the hospital. As an exception to the policy, we are permitting one adult to visit. No children under the age of 18 (unless they are the parent) are permitted to visit.

I am having a baby at an UMMS hospital and want my spouse/partner in attendance along with my doula. Is this still possible?

Yes. As an exception to the policy, we are permitting one adult to accompany any mother in labor. No children under the age of 18 are permitted to visit.

Is it safe for me to deliver my baby at an UMMS hospital?

Yes. Prohibiting visitors is one way that we are working to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and staff. We continue to follow recommendations issued by our local, state and national partners like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to keep our patients, visitors and staff safe.

I have to bring other children to my child’s appointment. What should I do?

If you are unable to make other arrangements for your children, please call your physician’s office to discuss potential options.

How long will these changes in the visiting policy be in effect?

Because this is a rapidly changing situation, we cannot predict how long these restrictions will remain in place. We will maintain them as long as necessary to protect our patients, visitors and staff. Please see our Temporary Visitor Restrictions or our social media sites for the most up-to-date information.
