Letter from Pharmacy Residency Program Director
Dear Prospective Applicants,
Thank you for your interest in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.
UM Capital Region Medical Center provides a unique opportunity for post-graduate pharmacy training. We are an acute care teaching hospital with various patient care specialties including trauma, emergency medicine, critical care, cardiac surgery, and neonatal intensive care.
We are the second highest volume center in the world-renowned Maryland Shock Trauma System. We serve a diverse patient population in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and are known for having the fewest barriers to patient access of any hospital in our region. A new state-of-the-art regional medical center is set to open in Largo in spring 2021.
The diverse learning environment will allow residents to enhance their clinical practice skills to provide pharmaceutical care for patients with various disease states and backgrounds in a multitude of clinical settings.
As a teaching hospital, pharmacy residents have the added opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team and learn alongside medical residents and students in addition to the pharmacy training by our dedicated preceptors. Residents will also be involved in scholarly activities by conducting research and in teaching by delivering presentations and lectures to pharmacy students, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
We are committed to train residents to become independent practitioners, leaders, and educators. We are looking for candidates who are dedicated to advancing their clinical knowledge and skills. Please review the information on our residency program and the application process. Feel free to contact me with any further questions. I look forward to meeting you and speaking with you about your interests.
