Certified Nurse Midwife

At UM Capital, we recognize that women want choice in how, where, and with whom they deliver their baby. In addition to our board-certified obstetricians, we offer a midwifery program designed to create a more holistic, natural birth experience for those women who want minimal interventions during the labor and birth process.

Our certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are compassionate and caring health professionals who can serve as your advocate in creating the birthing experience you want – part coach, part teacher, but always a healthcare professional whose goal is to help you safely delivery a healthy baby. They are specially trained in all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology and can provide your regular gynecologic and well-woman exams, as well as all your prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care. And because they are midwives, they also focus on educating new mothers on all aspects of infant care, breastfeeding, postpartum care and self-care for the new mom.

Our certified nurse-midwives are trained and licensed to operate independently to provide you with expert obstetric care; however there are times when complications unexpectedly happen. Our midwives work hand-in-hand with our traditional OB/GYNs and maternal-fetal medicine specialists and can expand your care team immediately should the need arise.

Our certified nurse-midwives have birthing privileges at UM Prince George’s Hospital Center’s traditional Labor and Delivery suites as well as our birthing center. For women who want a more natural birth experience, our birthing center provides a more home-like feel with regular beds, no electronic monitoring, large showers and soaking tubs for relaxation and, if desired, water births.
