Provider and Patient

When you or a loved one needs care for headaches, seizures, dementia or stroke, the physicians at University of Maryland Capital Region Health are recognized leaders in providing expert neurology treatment.

Our neurologists, nurses, nurse practitioners and a stroke coordinator serve patients in the emergency department, at our Level II Trauma Center and in the doctor’s office.

At UM Capital, we deliver inpatient, outpatient and comprehensive tertiary center care through our affiliation with the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Specialty, Stroke and General Neurology Care

Our Stroke Center is certified by Maryland and the Joint Commission on Accreditation, Health Care and Certification (JCAHO) as one of the Top 10 best performing stroke centers in the state. We achieved honor roll status, which means stroke patients receive the clot-busting medicine TPA in 60 minutes or less upon arriving at the emergency department.

All hospital staff and emergency medical services personnel are trained to recognize the signs of a stroke and treat the condition quickly. Monthly stroke committee meetings with emergency medical services (EMS) and hospital staff allow us to look for ways to improve our stroke care.

Our highly skilled doctors and nurses also diagnose neurological disorders by performing tests and procedures like:

  • Electroencephalograms (EEG)
  • Lumbar punctures (spinal tap)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

We provide care and treatment for a wide range of neurological conditions, including:

  • Dementia
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Head injuries
  • Headaches
  • Movement disorders
  • Seizures
  • Stroke
  • Trauma

If a trauma, head injury or stroke causes internal bleeding, our surgeons can perform procedures to treat it. When more intensive treatment is needed, we transfer patients to centers that can deliver a higher level of care.
