Lymphoma, a complex group of blood cancers with more than 60 different subtypes, occurs when cancer develops in lymphocytes, essential components in the immune system. The two main categories are Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
At the Cancer Center at UM Capital Region Health, our medical oncology team diagnoses lymphoma using sophisticated examination of the cells at the molecular level. We use advanced methods, which include genomic profiling, to precisely classify each lymphoma.
These advanced methods are necessary are crucial as different subtypes respond differently to treatment.
Lymphoma symptoms are often non-specific and can mimic other common conditions such as stress, exhaustion, hormonal changes, the common cold or flu.
Symptoms of lymphoma include:
Our treatment approach is highly individualized and considers factors such as lymphoma subtype, disease stage, patient age and overall health status.
The medical oncology team at Cancer Center at UM Capital uses a combination of chemotherapy drugs to treat large B-cell lymphoma. We also offer ABVD, a chemotherapy treatment for early and advanced stages of HL.
In partnership with University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC), we can expand beyond traditional chemotherapy and offer therapies, such as targeted agents like BTK inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies and CAR T-cell therapy for eligible patients.
Radiation therapy plays a vital role in many lymphoma cancer treatment plans.
Our radiation oncology team uses the latest technologies including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) to precisely target lymphoma sites while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.
We offer advanced imaging technologies, including PET/CT, for precise staging and treatment assessment. Our Cancer Center has invested in digital health platforms that enable real-time monitoring of patient symptoms for quick intervention when needed.
We provide supportive, comprehensive care that includes both physical and psychosocial assistance. Our survivorship program addresses long-term care and monitoring for potential late effects of treatment.
The profound impact of successful lymphoma treatment drives our commitment to excellence. The Cancer Center at UM Capital is dedicated to advancing lymphoma cancer care through clinical expertise, advanced technologies, and a focus on individualized, patient-centered treatment approaches.
Our dedicated team of blood cancer specialists includes hematologists and medical oncologists and radiation oncologists.
