UM Laurel Medical Center offers screenings for the early detection of lung cancer, which can lead to safer treatment options and increased survival rate.

The screening is done by a Super-Dimension Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB) system, which is minimally invasive and a relatively new technology.

ENB is extremely safe and efficient and procedures lasting approximately 60 minutes. Criteria, per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to screen for the early detection of lung cancer is as follows:

  • Age 55 to 77
  • Show no signs or symptoms of lung cancer
  • Tobacco smoking history of at least 30 years
  • Currently smokes or has quit within the past 15 years
