Pulmonary/Lung Rehabilitation Services

UM Laurel Medical Center delivers a full range pulmonary/lung rehabilitation program tailored to its patients' needs. The program screens and manages all lung disorders including asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders. The program also consists of exercise sessions that are supervised and monitored, breathing techniques to help reduce shortness of breath and education classes to help patients understand their condition and to have the best possible quality of life.

Sleep Wellness Center

UM Laurel Medical Center Sleep Wellness Center offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment options for patients suffering from sleep-related health issues. The program is directed by physicians who are board certified in pulmonary and sleep medicine. Services and sleep studies include, but are not limited to Pulysomnogram (PSG), Multi Sleep Latency Test and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). Once a diagnosis is made, our specialist work with patients to develop a personalized treatment plan.

Free HIV Testing

Testing is done from 10 am to 10 pm Monday through Friday. On the weekends, the testing is done from 9 am to 5 pm on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. No testing on holidays. The program is operated by the Emergency Department and provides free HIV testing by oral swab. Testing is provided for citizens ages 13 and older. Testing is held at UM Prince George's Hospital Center.

Living Well Chronic Disease Self Management Program

In partnership with Prince George's County Family Services, we hold a 6-week healthy workshop designed for people living with chronic health conditions including but not limited to diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and pulmonary conditions. Each class will help you set goals, make action plans, and improve your life.

You will learn how to:

  • Decrease frustrations
  • Talk to your doctor
  • Live a healthier more active lifestyle
  • Manage symptoms with the best techniques

Stepping on Falls Prevention Program

Our Stepping On is an evidence-based falls prevention program that empowers older adults to carry our health behaviors that reduce the risks of falls. It is a community-based workshop offered once a week for seven weeks using adult education and self-efficacy principles.

Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program

Our Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program can help you quit using tobacco products, reduce the risk of lung infection, and greatly improve your lung function. We use education, counseling, nicotine replacement therapy and support to guide you through the quitting process. We surround you with resources during and after your journey to be tobacco free.

Senior Dining and Lecture Series

These bimonthly lectures are designed to help adults ages 60 and older learn proactive measures to maintain optimal health. Topics include diabetes, heart disease, and sleep apnea.
