Sherry B. Perkins, PhD, RN, FAAN is the president and CEO of University of Maryland Capital Region Health. She joined UM Capital Region Health in 2016 and served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer from 2016 to 2018. Prior to her joining UM Capital Region Health, Dr. Perkins held executive leadership roles with the Anne Arundel Health System and the University of Maryland Medical System.
Dr. Perkins earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baylor University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, and a PhD in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She also completed the Johnson & Johnson Wharton Fellows Program in Management at the University of Pennsylvania.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and an adjunct faculty member of the University of Maryland School of Nursing since 1992, Dr. Perkins holds several appointments including the Maryland Hospital Association Executive Committee, the Maryland Hospital Association Council on Clinical and Quality Issues, the Maryland Patient Safety Center Board of Directors, and Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care. She has been honored by the YWCA, Maryland Nursing Association, and Nursing Spectrum for leadership among women and the nursing profession. She is the recipient of more than 12 research grants on clinical topics, and has shared her expertise in nearly 120 professional publications and presentations.
