midwife and patientThe Pascal Women's Center at UM BWMC is proud to offer its patients a robust midwifery program. Certified nurse midwives are trained medical professionals with expertise and skills in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period.

Our midwives strive to create a compassionate partnership with each patient and use individualized methods of care and healing as guided by best practices. They incorporate therapeutic use of physiological and emotional support paired with skillful communication for the best possible outcomes.

The midwives support low intervention and natural childbirths, while also offering up-to-date medical options for pain control for those who prefer a medicated birth. They use appropriate interventions and technology for current or potential health problems, and collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team as needed to provide optimal care during labor and delivery.

They are specially trained to provide a wide range of holistic services to provide a whole body experience. During labor, our midwives may use the following holistic techniques with our patients:

  • Sterile water papule injections for back pain/back labor
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Cranial sacral therapy
  • Spinning babies
  • Myofascial release
  • Acupressure
  • Essential oils
  • Massage
  • Hypotherapy
  • Rebozzo
