Newborn Care Workshop with Infant CPR
Taught by registered nurses using evidence-based practice, this interactive, hands-on class teaches new parents and grandparents how to care for their babies with knowledge and confidence. The 4 hour class covers basic infant care such as bathing, diapering, cord care, and soothing a baby. Household baby-proofing and basic infant first aid are discussed along with safe sleep environment and car seat safety. Infant CPR and choking rescue methods will be taught using the American Heart Association Infant CPR Anytime program. This class is for educational purposes and is not a certification program. Class time is 10 am to 2 pm $60 fee includes mother and partner.

Cesarean Birth Preparation
For families who know ahead of time that they will have a cesarean birth, we will discuss what you can expect before, during and after your cesarean delivery. Our Labor and Delivery staff will explain and answer your questions about preparation for surgery, medication, and anesthesia, as well as skin-to-skin and breastfeeding with a cesarean birth. We will watch a video about the cesarean birthing process and tour the Pascal Family Birthing Center's recovery room to discuss recovery and postpartum care at home. Class time is 6:30 to 8:30 pm. $30 fee includes mother and support person.

Preparing for Twins (or more!)
Designed for parents who are expecting twins (or more!), this class covers topics for pregnancy, delivery and newborn care that are specific to multiples. Attend this class during your second trimester! Pregnancy topics include preterm labor, lifestyle adjustments and monitoring for complications. We will learn basic aspects of both vaginal delivery and cesarean birth and considerations for a possible Special Care Nursery or NICU admission of a baby. Group discussion focuses on managing more than one newborn at home and tips for breastfeeding and breast pumping for multiples. We will not take a long dinner break but you are welcome to bring your dinner or access the café on site and eat while we talk! $30 fee includes mother and support person. One-Day Childbirth Education Class
Developed for busy expecting parents, this one-day class focuses on evidence-based information that empowers parents to manage the process of labor and birth and make informed choices for their birth experience. This class provides an understanding of the stages of labor and familiarity with medical and hospital procedures. Discussion will focus on pain management options and we will practice techniques for relaxation, breathing, and pushing. Class includes what to expect in the immediate postpartum period and a tour of the Pascal Family Birthing Center. Class time is 9:30 am to 5:30 pm with a break for lunch. You are welcome to bring your lunch or access the café on site. $75 fee includes mother and support person. It is recommended to bring snacks, a pillow and a blanket from home.

Two-Day Childbirth Education Class
Similar to the one-day childbirth education class but designed for a full weekend experience, this two-day class focuses on evidence-based information that empowers parents to manage the process of labor and birth and make informed choices for their birth experience. On day one, this class will provide an understanding of the stages of labor and familiarity with medical and hospital procedures. On day two, discussion will focus on pain management options and we will practice techniques for relaxation, breathing, and pushing. For the second day, please bring a blanket and a pillow from home. Class includes what to expect in the immediate postpartum period and a tour of the Pascal Family Birthing Center. Each day will be four hours long and class is held from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be a short lunch break in which you are welcome to bring your lunch or access the café on site. $75 fee includes mother and support person.

Essentials of Breastfeeding
Learn how to breastfeed with confidence. Taught by a registered nurse, this course will cover the basics of breastfeeding including advantages of breastfeeding, initiating breastfeeding, various breastfeeding positions, establishing and identifying a good latch, and feeding and pumping guidelines. This interactive class also includes a helpful book. Class time is 3 to 5 pm, 5 to 7 pm or 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The $30 fee includes mother and support person.

Childbirth Express/Refresher Class
This express childbirth preparation class is ideal for families who may want a very basic childbirth class, need a childbirth refresher course, or for those who will be requesting anesthesia for pain relief. Discussion will provide an overview of labor and birth, what to expect when coming to the hospital, breathing and relaxation techniques to manage early labor, and anesthesia options. Class time is 9:30 to 11:30 am or 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. $30 fee includes mother and support person.

Preparing to be a Big Brother/Big Sister
This class helps big brothers and sisters ages 3-5 adjust to their new sibling by teaching them what to expect with the arrival of a new baby. Topics covered include baby safety, what a newborn looks like and sounds like, and how babies grow and change. Big brothers and sisters will be honored with a certificate. Class time is 10 am to 2 pm or 3 to 5 pm. $30 fee per family.

Pumping: Making it Work
Perfect for moms returning to work while breastfeeding. Know your legal rights for pumping breaks at work! Learn how to use your breast pump and techniques to maintain milk supply. We will discuss safe milk handling and storage. You may bring your own breast pump. Class time is 6 to 8 pm or 6:30 to 8:30 pm. $30 fee includes mother and support person.
This class is offered on the following dates: 8/12/19, 10/14/19 or 11/3/19.
Comfort Techniques for Natural Birth
This hands-on class is designed for parents who wish to practice comfort techniques for non-pharmaceutical pain relief during labor. Please dress comfortably for various position changes. It is recommended to bring snacks and a pillow from home. Class time is 1 to 4 pm or 3 to 6 pm. $40 fee includes mother and up to two support people.

Pascal Women's Center Tour
Helps families get acquainted with UM BWMC and its facilities. Tour the center and learn about the high-quality care and services for growing families. Tour times are Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm and Sunday afternoons from 3 to 4 pm on specified dates. Visit the classes and events page to register. Free.
Lactation Support Group
Get answers to questions while connecting with and supporting other moms. Led by a certified lactation consultant, all breastfeeding moms and children are welcome.
