Treating Vascular Disease Using the Siemens Artis Pheno®

UM BWMC’s Operating Room features two endovascular suites with state-of-the-art technology that allows surgeons to treat a wide range of vascular conditions. These suites are used to perform arteriograms, venograms, angioplasty and other minimally-invasive procedures.

In 2018, UM BWMC became the first hospital in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region to install the new Artis Pheno® multi-axis angiography system from Siemens Healthineers. This robotic imaging system offers the most advanced clinical procedures and techniques to patients, combining unmatched positioning flexibility with high definition imaging. The system enables physicians to treat a variety of vascular pathologies including peripheral artery disease, aneurysmal disease and cerebrovascular disease.

The Artis Pheno enables physicians to perform highly complex procedures, and the system is able to provide physicians with a head to toe view of the patient’s body. The robotic-assisted positioning enables the 3D-visualization of larger sections of anatomy. This provides doctors with additional information for increased diagnostic confidence while offering a significant reduction in procedural radiation and contrast dose.
