Mobile Intraoperative CT
At University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center, we are proud to offer the latest treatment options to our patients. Our neurosurgery team utilizes the Airo® Mobile Intraoperative CT, which provides advanced imaging technology during surgical procedures. Designed for use in the operating room, Airo provides diagnostic quality images, giving our surgeons more precise and up-to-date anatomical information during surgery for timely and informed decision-making.
Airo is a portable 32-slice CT scanner that offers mobility, flexibility and access to real-time patient images. Neurosurgeons are able to verify that their surgical goals have been met in just a few minutes using the Airo during the procedure. This may reduce re-operation rates, decrease overall costs and lead to improved patient care. Intraoperative imaging can also offer patients the benefit of a less-invasive surgical procedure, reduced trauma, faster recovery times and shorter hospital stays.
Airo mobile CT enables more flexible patient positioning and helps expand the use of intraoperative imaging for a wide range of clinical applications, including cranial, spinal, ear/nose/throat (ENT), head and neck, cranio-maxillofacial (CMF), trauma and orthopedic surgery.
UM BWMC uses Airo Mobile Intraoperative CT as the new standard of care, potentially reducing the risk of repeat, or revision, surgery. With this technology surgeons can rely on intraoperative information to ensure that they have achieved the objective of the procedure, rather than wait for post-operative images to verify the results. Physicians are able to react intraoperatively to the surgical situation by verifying what has been done after each step, potentially correcting any imperfections during the procedure.
