Pediatrics - FAQs
What if my child is hospitalized for an extended amount of time and
they miss school?
It is the policy of UM BWMC to ensure that a referral is made to the
appropriate school system in order to assure the educational needs of the
child are met when required treatment necessitates a school absence longer
than 14 days. Parents will be provided with information on this issue at
their request.
Is the pediatric unit a secure unit?
Yes, the pediatric unit is a locked, secure unit. All visitors must ring a
bell at the door of the unit to request entry, and a staff member inside
the unit will open the door.
What are the visiting hours for people other than parents?
For all others, visiting hours are until 8:30 p.m. To protect our patients,
all visitors must be free from colds, flu, rashes or any other communicable
disease. Patients may not be left alone with anyone under the age of 18.
What are the visiting hours for parents on the pediatric unit?
Parents are encouraged to stay with their children as much as possible
during the day. For the comfort of the parents and the child, a double
couch is provided for two parents/guardians to stay overnight with their
child.
