Heart Diagnostic Tests

Dr. Samuel Yoon examines a heartDiagnostic testing is done to detect and diagnose heart conditions and diseases. By performing heart tests, our physicians can identify any abnormalities and create a health plan for you to restore your heart strength. Heart tests may include:

Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG)
An EKG is used to diagnose and monitor cardiac disorders. The standard 12 lead EKG uses a series of electrodes placed on the patient's extremities and chest wall to assess the heart from 12 different views.

Trans-thoracic Echocardiogram - 2D and Color Flow Doppler
An echocardiogram uses ultrahigh frequency sound waves to help examine the size, shape and motion of the heart. When going to have an echocardiogram done, be sure to wear a shirt that can be removed easily, such as a button down shirt.

Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
Ultrasound is used with endoscopy to provide a better view of the heart's structures. A TEE is used to diagnose thoracic and aortic disorders, endocarditis, congenital heart disease, and tumors. When going to have a TEE done, be sure to wear a shirt that can be removed easily, such as a button down shirt.
