The Digestive Health Center at UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center is pleased to offer Outpatient Dietitian Services designed to empower you to take control of your nutrition.
During your one-on-one session, a registered, licensed dietitian (RD, LDN) will help you set personal goals and create an individualized plan to improve your health.
How can a registered dietitian help me?
A RD is your nutrition expert. He or she has extensive schooling in the role of nutrition in disease management and health. The dietitian will assist you in improving your eating habits, tailoring them toward your lifestyle, medical condition and food preferences. Nutrition therapy with a RD is recommended to help with:
- Food allergies
- Celiac disease
- Crohns disease
- Diabetes (type 1 and 2)
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol or triglycerides
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Gestational diabetes
- Sports nutrition
- Weight management
Do I need a physician referral?
Yes, a physician referral is necessary for all appointments. It gives the dietitian the medical information needed to plan an appropriate and individualized counseling session, and is also necessary to receive insurance reimbursement.
Is this covered by my insurance?
It is best to check with your individual insurance company to see if your specific medical condition is covered for dietitian services.
