50 Years of Service at UM BWMC
In 2015, the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center celebrated its 50th anniversary. Since opening our hospital on July 4, 1965, our extraordinary team of providers has cared for generations of families and countless members of our community. We have a rich history, and have grown from the 107-bed North Arundel Hospital to a comprehensive regional medical center with more than 250 beds.
Today, the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center not only provides outstanding inpatient care, but also includes physician practices and a multitude of ambulatory services located throughout our region. Combined with our partnership with the University of Maryland Medical Center, one of the nation’s oldest academic medical centers, our specialized clinical programs are supported by expert physicians and cutting-edge medicine.
While a lot has changed since our ribbon cutting ceremony on that hot summer day over 50 years ago, what has not changed is our relentless pursuit of excellence. We remain steadfast in our commitment to our mission to provide the highest quality healthcare services to the communities we serve. Our focus is on being your preferred regional medical center through nationally recognized quality, personalized service and outstanding people. We continue to hold your safety and satisfaction at the top of our priority list. We dedicate our efforts to building a healthier community and enhancing the wellbeing of your family. And we put our hearts into taking care of you.
Thank you to the founders of UM BWMC, and the physicians, employees, volunteers, Auxiliary members, donors, board members and community partners who have played an integral role in our success. We’re very proud of how far we have come, but with the support of our community and medical partnerships we are even more excited about our future.
A legacy of care, the future of your health.
