Partnering With Local Businesses

As one of the largest employers in the state, University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) has the power to influence the economic well-being of communities across Maryland. And as anchor institutions within those communities, it is our responsibility to use that influence to strengthen them.
That's why we focus on building and sustaining relationships with local businesses and organizations that embrace the values of UMMS: compassion, discovery, excellence, diversity and integrity. The people and leaders we partner with work to improve their communities — a mission and goal we all share.
How We Partner With Our Communities
At UMMS we have the great privilege of working with many local organizations and people who create change. We also recognize that not all business owners have the same opportunities.
This is why we have increased our investments with businesses that reflect our community, patients and workforce. This includes mentoring and supporting minority-owned businesses to ensure their continued growth:
- Through our Minority and Women-Owned Business Program, we attract talented new partners to bid on UMMS projects.
- We developed training designed to help minority and women-owned businesses work within our System and beyond.
- We have been recognized multiple times for excellence in including minority-owned businesses among our suppliers.
As we continue to expand our partnerships, we will measure our progress and identify more businesses we can support to help communities thrive.
