The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) serves more than one million patients and families every year. More than 29,000 people work at UMMS.

We continue to make efforts to seek out qualified candidates who reflect the values, backgrounds and stories of our neighbors and patients.
Demonstrating Our Commitment
UMMS has shown our workforce support by investing in recruitment and compensation efforts in recent years:
- To strengthen connections within our communities and attract a highly qualified workforce, UMMS has pledged $5.1 million to recruit registered nurses and other clinical bedside experts from community colleges in the areas we serve.
- We have created a System-wide mentorship program that matches mentors with mentees at all levels.
Our workforce efforts contributed to Newsweek naming us as one of "America's Greatest Workplaces for Inclusion & Diversity 2025," which recognizes the top companies in the United States that employees say respect and value the people who work there.
