Donna L. Jacobs Honored Among Blackdoctor.Org's 2014 "Top Blacks In Healthcare"

BALTIMORE – and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities & Solutions has named University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) Senior Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs, Donna L. Jacobs, as one of the inaugural recipients of their “Top Blacks in Healthcare” Award.

Award recipients, selected from among 250 of the most accomplished black healthcare professionals in America, were honored at a banquet on Thursday, April 3 at The Reginald Lewis Museum in Baltimore.

“Donna is a dynamic, inspiring leader within the University of Maryland Medical System. We are so pleased that she is being honored for her many contributions to our community and advocacy for the healthcare environment in Maryland,” said Robert A. Chrencik, president and chief executive officer of UMMS.

Jacobs joined UMMS in January 2001, after previously serving as Governor Parris N. Glendening’s deputy chief of staff, where she advised the Governor on important healthcare and other policy issues. In addition to her UMMS government and regulatory affairs duties regarding a variety of health topics including cardiac and cancer services, reimbursement issues and medical liability, Jacobs leads the UMMS Community Advocacy and Outreach Committee, coordinating teams and resources from across the Medical System aimed at improving the health of people in local communities. She also played a key role in UMMS’s partnership in the new West Baltimore Health Enterprise Zone, a statewide initiative to reduce health disparities. Additionally, Jacobs oversees the System’s minority business development efforts. is a leading provider of culturally relevant health news and resources for African Americans. They created the award in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities & Solutions to honor distinguished African American healthcare executives for their contributions to the industry.
